Parent Support Groups Can Reduce Child Abuse Essay
Many parents lack the skills necessary to properly teach and discipline their children. As a result, out of pure frustration, parents lash out physically and/or verbally. Hitting a child or yelling at one has detrimental long-term effects. Parents-to-be need to be given strategies for dealing with discipline issues. Support groups should also offer parent training. When parents have had a hard day, whether due to work, family, or other persons or events, they tend to lash out without a thought at the misbehaving child. The parent lets his or her anger build up, unable to release it toward the appropriate situation he or she is actually frustrated with. Its so easy to get caught up in their moment of frenzy. Its hard to standâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦However, it is it is not illegal for children to endure this type of punishment. Even more unbelievable, priests say that the bible even promotes it. One priest, Reverend Ronald E. Williams, says that a parent should use a wooden pad dle and any unwillingness to use physical correction is child abuse. The bible can also be used to vindicate slavery, suppression of women, polygamy, incest, and infanticide (The Humanist 2000). While all these inhumane actions are illegal, why then is it appropriate to abuse a child out of anger or frustration. Unbeknownst to most parents, hitting or yelling at a child has pernicious effects throughout that childs lifetime. Once a child is hit so many times, hitting becomes a learned behavior that will follow him or her from school days where they get into fights, into marriage, where they will possibly hit their spouse, and eventually will lead into parenthood and become a form of discipline to their children. The New York Post says that research indicates that when a child is spanked it could result in sexualized behavior and/or sexual deviancy. When a parent yells at a child, he teaches that child that it is an appropriate outlet for the childs frustrations. Hitting or yelling w ill also result in worse behaviorsShow MoreRelatedThe Problem Of Child Abuse880 Words à |à 4 Pagesthe aim to raise awareness about the problems of child abuse. Renà © Lalique was born in 1860 and first began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. Lalique pursued increasingly more innovative experimentation in glass commencing around 1883. Early works used the familiar lost wax technique by which the model is made in wax while a mold is formed around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a larger production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an end with theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as Graal and Ariel, and to fur ther development of the traditional Bohemian cooper-wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older ones refined - and this is still the case today. Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist came at the end of the 1920s as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon Gate and Edward Hald became full-fledged glass artists during the 1930s. The sculptor Edvin Ohrstrom joined Orrefors in 1936. Checks and Balances on the American Government Free Essays
Tatianna Orozco P. 2 Checks and Balances The six basic principles of the constitution are popular sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers, judicial review, federalism, and checks and balances. Checks and balances is the amount of power assigned to each branch (executive, legislative, and judicial) to keep them balanced. We will write a custom essay sample on Checks and Balances on the American Government or any similar topic only for you Order Now This concept was popularized by Baron Montesquieu to keep the French government from corrupting and was brought to the American government. Over the 200 plus years checks and balances has been in act, it has been very effective through impeachment, laws, and military actions. When it comes to impeachment, the system of checks and balances is very effective. The president can be impeached by the House of Representatives. During the impeachment, the Chief of Justice sits a President of the Senate. So, this is a check on the executive branch. In impeachment, legislative branch holds the power. The legislative branch represents the people which provides a check upon itself and the judicial branch. As a result of the legislative branch holding most of the power, it allows the people to have a connected sense especially when it comes to voting. Checks and balances is very effective through lawmaking. If the president decides to veto a bill, congress may override the veto by a 2/3 vote of both houses. This puts a check on the executive branch. In a case where the president does not sign a bill within 10 days it automatically becomes a law. Because of congress having most of the power over lawmaking, it gives the people of this country can have assurance over injury. Military actions are another way checks and balances are effective in equality of two branches. The executive branch puts a check on the legislative branch by the president being commander in chief of the military. Even though the president is chief of the military, only congress has the power to declare war. This is effective in the way that instead of 1 person declaring way itââ¬â¢s a group of people making a big decision. Along with popular sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers, judicial review, and federalism, checks and balances is effective in our government. Without checks and balances we wouldnââ¬â¢t have the stable government and protection we have today. How to cite Checks and Balances on the American Government, Essay examples

There is no concealed significance here. It means nil more than ââ¬Å"to leave.â⬠Slang is evidently really easy to understand, one time a definition for each word has been established. Finally, we come to one of my favourite words. # 8220 ; Ghetto # 8221 ; is a word I use rather frequently. # 8220 ; Ghetto # 8221 ; is a word used to depict anything or anyone that is non up to standard. The Stirling Engine Essay Example For Students
The Stirling Engine Essay The Stirling EngineRobert Stirling invented the Stirlingengine in 1816. At the time he was a Scottish minister. Stirling engineswere the safest engines made during that time period that would not explodelike a steam engine could. The Stirling engine would not explode becausethe pressures could not be elevated to that to such a high level. The machinesimply stopped when the heater section failed from thermal stress or imperfectionsin the material or manufacturing process. So from that day on there wasa better, safer way to produce power, far superior than that of a steamengine. A Stirling Engine is a mechanical device, which operates on a closed looping thermodynamic cycle. Different temperaturelevels cause compression and expansion of the air or steam, which causesthe piston arms to move back and forth keeping up with the changes in theinternal pressure. The flow of the steam is controlled by changes in thevolume of the hot and cold spaces, without the use of valves. The Stirling cycle can be is still appliedto day in common appliances such as a refrigerator. The heat cycle whenapplied to a heat cycle can produce cool air. This will occur when workis done on the Stirling device, and the heat energy is discarded into theroom. The heat energy that came from the Stirling cycle would be take fromthe inside of the refrigerator therefore making it cooler on the inside. We will write a custom essay on The Stirling Engine specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now In 1876 Rev. Stirling wrote in a letterabout his brother James, who had just died, These imperfections havebeen in great measure removed by time and especially by the genius of thedistinguished Bessemer. If Bessemer iron or steel had been known thirtyfive or forty years ago there is scarce a doubt that the air engine wouldhave been a great successIt remains for some skilled and ambitious mechanistin a future age to repeat it under favorable circumstances and with completesuccess. Rev. Dr. Robert Stirling (1790-1878) from Stirling Enginesby G. Walker. Robert Stirling applied for his first patentsfor this engine and the economizer in 1816, only after a few months ofgetting nominated as a minister at the Church of Scotland. Sir George Caleyhad devised air engines previous to this time and other devices calledair engines were known as early as 1699. Steam engines began to carry abad name along with it because they were so dangerous. Air engines wereso safe and they operated on completely different principles. Theeconomizer or regenerator has come to be recognized as a most importantpart of the patent that Robert Stirling received. This patent was so outstandingbecause of the fact that it predated much of the study of thermodynamics. Some historians believe that the reason for Robert Stirlings efforts atsuch a device were driven by his concern for the working people of hisparishes as steam engines were being used extensively in that area andtime period. Because of the lack of strength in the materials availableto construct, they would frequently explode sending shrapnel, boiling water, and steam at the people working nearby. After the years the gasoline internalcombustion engine has taken over. The reason this occurred was becauseof the time it takes for a Stirling engine to heat up enough to get moving. Lately with all of the problems with the environment a need for automobileengines with low emission of toxic gases has revived interest in the Stirlingengine. Some Stirling engines have been built with up to 500 horsepowerand with efficiencies of 30 to 45 percent. The common internal-combustionengine would have efficiency in the range of 20 to 25 percent. .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .postImageUrl , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:hover , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:visited , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:active { border:0!important; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:active , .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua0b66b88758c6a93583f312852cda66d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Kfc Vision Mission And Principles Worldwide EssayOne of the fastest moving technologiesis that of composites. These materials have a type of plastic make up alongwith other properties. The strength of this type of material is superiorin nature and for the purposes of a Sterling engine, I feel that it wouldbe perfectly suited. They have already begun to experimentally replacecertain motor parts in the internal combustion engine, such as the pistons. The advantages of this would be that the weight of internal parts wouldbe significantly lighter and therefore able to run at higher speeds. Anotheradvantage would be that the heat developed inside the engine would haveless affect on the components because composites react, (shrink and expand)less that a metal would. Lubrication also plays a huge part in engineperformance. If all parts slide together easy than the total force putinto overcoming friction would be reduced. Bearings and other parts wouldalso play a large part in reducing friction. The design technology of sterling enginesover the years has changed very slowly. Over the years the materials haveslowly began to change, what was once a wood wheel is now machined outof steal. The main theory of the Sterling cycle has remained the same, but because of its incapability to be convenient when placed into a car,the Sterling engine has never become a huge success. This probably explainswhy the manufacturing process has never moved into a mass production orand assembly line operation of larger sized engines. The model industrythat produces them, as toy is probable the only type of company that doesmass-produce them. Because the parts for the Stirling engine are fairlyeasy to machine, the materials are common, and fairly inexpensive, an assemblyline type of production would be fairly easy and inexpensive to set up. These are the 2 basic design types; thetwo-piston type Stirling engine is shown to the left. A space above a hotpiston is always heated and the space above a cold piston is always cooled. The displacer type Stirling engine (the one to the right) has a space abovea displacer piston, and it is always heated by a heat source. A space belowthe displacer piston is cooled always. The displacer piston displaces hotair and cold air. The 1900s brought on a time of industrializationand few things were still made by hand. In this age Stirling engines couldbe built bye assembly lines but Henry Ford had already began productionof his model T Ford, which used an internal combustion engine. This prettymuch killed the need for the Stirling engine. During this these old timesprototypes were almost non-existent except for that of a seldom made model. The reason this occurred is if a prototype was made it was probably putinto use not just set aside whit the actual models were getting manufactured. Before this time if somebody wanted something they had to build it forhim or her self, or they would have to find someone to build it for them. This explains why there were very few Sterling engines that were similarback then. Most parts were built by hand which explains the wooden flywheel. Because the cost of the part presently used to make it are so cheep andthe parts are adequate to the demands of this engine. If I was the designer of the Stirlingengine and I had the technology of today to help me in my work I wouldhave to make it out of composite products or at least a good portion ofit. The Sterling engine in itself if very safe and the simple facts thata cleaner fuel that is being burned will also reduce emissions making ita better engine for the environment. To increase power and make it runfaster I would add piston rings to the piston to give it a tighter seal. .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .postImageUrl , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:hover , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:visited , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:active { border:0!important; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:active , .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub26986fbbc2521269317cb0aa9fb5a6c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Purchasing A Small Business EssayTo reduce friction in the flywheel I would make sure bearings were placeron the axle and make sure they were oiled properly. Kelley v. Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois Kelley v. Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is a court case pertaining to the cut of the menââ¬â¢s swim team at the University of Illinois in regards to Title IX. Some men on the swim team felt that by their team being cut and not the womenââ¬â¢s swim team also being cut that it was a violation of Title IX. Those men then took legal actions against the University. Female participation at the University of Illinois has always been disproportionate to the female undergraduate enrollment. So, when the school was faced with a $600,000 athletic budget deficit the school decided to cut some sports programs. The school cut four teams- menââ¬â¢s swimming, menââ¬â¢s fencing, and menââ¬â¢s and womenââ¬â¢s diving. While the Universityââ¬â¢s decision to cut athletic programs was motivated by budget considerations, other considerations- including the need to comply with Title IX- influenced the selection of particular programs to be terminated. The men on the swim team argued that ââ¬Å"if a university is required by Title IX to eliminate men from varsity competitionâ⬠¦, then the same Title IX should require the university to eliminate women from the academic departments where they are over-represented and men from departments where they have been over-represented. Such a result would be ridiculous.â⬠The plaintiffs believe that the substantial proportionality test contained in the agencyââ¬â¢s policy interpretation of that regulation establishes a gender-based quota system. The plaintiffs also argued that the universityââ¬â¢s decision to eliminate the menââ¬â¢s swimming program while retaining the womenââ¬â¢s program denied them equal protection of the law as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment. Plaintiffs contend that the applicable rules allow ââ¬Å"the University toâ⬠¦ improve its statistics without adding any opportunities for womenâ⬠¦,â⬠an outcome they suggest is unconstitut... Free Essays on Legal Free Essays on Legal Identity is socially constructed in contemporary American society, itââ¬â¢s important to establish the clear meaning for constructionism to understand it. Identity is constructed through social, political, legal, scientific, and other practices. From this traditional perspective, differences and stereotypes among people are created through social processes. Identity is a very important part of todayââ¬â¢s society. For example, in the school environment, if we humanize the students to find common threads that bind us together, and respect the differences in each of our cultures, students will feel empowered to continue exploring their own identities and weave it on. Traditional notions of identity are explained in depth in Jorge Duanyââ¬â¢s article entitled, ââ¬Å"On Borders and Boundaries: Contemporary Thinking in Cultural Identity.â⬠He talks about the intense ideological and emotional overtones of the question of national identity in Puerto Rico and elsewhere. In the reading there is a quote that talks about identity being derived from history, culture, and language. This is what is thought to be the traditional way of seeing identity. Identities are constructed in a certain formation rather than fixed from birth or through an individualââ¬â¢s life cycle. This notion is challenged, and I believe that ââ¬Å"structuralist thinkers view the construction of cultural identities as a process of erecting symbolic boundaries and narrating stories to represent the self and the other.â⬠A perfect illustration of identity as a social construction is with the artist Shakira. She just crossed over into mainstream American entertainment, this is a business where you have to look a certain way all the time and act a certain way. There are many people that will argue that they preferred Shakira when she just sang in Spanish and had her dark hair with red streaks. Now that she crossed into the mainstream, her image has changed completely; s he is the d... Free Essays on Legal Kelley v. Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois Kelley v. Sandra Backlund's life and fashin design Coursework
Sandra Backlund's life and fashin design - Coursework Example The Swedish designer, Sandra Backlund, was born in 1975 in Stockholm where she lives even today. While she wanted to be a hairstylist when she was about 10, her grandmother regular taught her how to knit. As she grew up, she always considered it a conscious decision to start what her mother often praised her of being excellently talented; handicrafts. She attributes the absence of fascinating fashion to buy as an adolescent as a key factor that motivated her to create her own clothes from the ideas taught by her grandmother. Her desire to express herself artistically further motivated her to join the Beckmans College. In 2004, Backlund graduated from Beckmans College in Stockholm and later that year, sought financial assistance from friends and family to set up her individual eponymous label from where she has been working round-the-clock since then. After setting up the eponymous label in 2004, Backlund fully became exposed to the world of art winning many accolades thereafter. For instance, she was crowned the winner of the Grand Prix in the De Monde & Photographie in Hyeres international festival in France, and the British Fashion Council awarded her the NewGen sponsorship in 2009 as asserted by Battista. In 2010, Backlund extended her success by winning the Swedish Elle Award.Backlundââ¬â¢s success left decriers and supporters flabbergasted. Despite the challenges she faced being in an industry that was previously perceived to be chauvinistic, Backlund sojourned on attracting the awe of the international fashion community.
